Publisher: Jim Matthews
Editors: Gunther Collins, Don Glut
April - Oct. 1966
Well done monster mag with some nice cover art and a color 11x17 center spread poster. The usual interviews, filmbooks, news and reviews and lots of photos plus some horror fiction. Prestige also published the famous 1966 Monster Calendar featuring Don Post Studios' monster masks.

Prentice published the calendar, NOT Prestige!
ReplyDeleteThe only copyright I can find on the calendar says "c. 1966 Prestige Publications". There are ads to buy the calendar and other products from Prentice Enterprises.
DeleteArtist Larry Byrd told me in 1972 that he never got paid for painting the cover of issue #4 (Invisible Man).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the history tidbit, Keith! It's one of my favorite covers!
DeleteI have a copy of Modern Monsters 3 with someone's writing on the credits page, very possibly by the editor or publisher. It says Byrd received $50.00 for cover. Further down, it says "At .2c per word, Don Glut is owed $126.00 payment deferred. I wonder if he got paid!
DeleteError in first comment. Glut says he never got paid for final issue #4 either. Presumably he was paid for issue #3.
DeleteI have a 1966 Monster Calander by Prentice Enterprises. I would like to sell this, are you a buyer?
ReplyDeleteI already have one, Jill. eBay is a good place to sell. If it still has the calendar part, it will be an easy sell.
