Marvel Comics founder Martin Goodman left Marvel in 1972 and in 1974 created Seaboard Periodicals to compete with Marvel and DC. The company folded a year later, but not before publishing (amongst other things) four issues of Movie Monsters, a well written, nicely designed and illustrated mag that deserved a longer life. Editor Rovin had previously worked for Warren and would later write several books on fantasy films.

The Phantom cover is so bizarre it's memorable.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! And "The Thing" on #4 is an equally bizarre representation of that movie monster. Gotta give Mr. Torjussen props for originality!
